It’s amazing how a tarot card can change your outlook!
I woke up tired, cranky, cold (the first signs of autumn are here!) and in no mood to work. I was going to ask the tarot which project I should focus on today. At the last minute, as I shuffled my Hanson-Roberts deck, the question popped in to my mind: “What kind of day will I have today?”
After a bit more shuffling, I drew the…
Wheel of Fortune
After The “World”, the Wheel of Fortune is one of the most propitious cards in the deck. Its number, 10, reduces to the number one, which corresponds with the beginning of a cycle. But 10 is better–indicating an advanced cycle, the first step of the next phase.
The card shows good luck, a change for the better, advancement and opportunity.
The reading says all my fears about RECON Magazine will be unfounded. The contract jobs I applied for yesterday may yield positive results and increased income. Perhaps the checks I’ve been waiting for will come in today.
Sometimes, the Wheel of Fortune forecasts the purchase of a new vehicle. That wouldn’t be all bad either, considering the battery died on the Blazer this morning. But I don’t think that’s what it means right now.
With my e-mail box full of monthly bills, seeing this card gives me the ambition to plow ahead. Things will get better if I keep working.
No particular question, just wondering if I will accomplish all I set out to today.
While shuffling, I was compelled to draw the…
King of Swords
We are back to yesterday’s theme of Discipline, as the King of Swords is a heavy-handed ruler. It reminds me to stay coolly rational and focused on the task at hand. This card may represent two male editors I’m currently working for, their demanding (but fair) standards, and my need to get the necessary work completed (or, in one case, started) today.
It feels like it’s in my hands to set the pace for the day and get things done. I’m capable of originality; my way may not be conventional, but it will accomplish the task at hand.
I’ll start my Daily Tarot Card analysis by questioning the future potential of this blog. Although I wouldn’t be surprised if the cards tell me to stop messing around on my blogs and get to work on some magazine assignments.

A major arcana indicates this little exercise may have more significance than I realize. I’ve seen a lot of sevens in my life lately, including this card, which shows progress, movement and victory.
I’ve also launched a few new projects. The Chariot tells me to take the reins of these projects, steer them through the course to completion.
That’s certainly something I’ve had challenges with in the past. Discipline is key.
NaBloPoMo, I’m ready for you!
(this reading conducted using the Universal Waite Tarot Deck.)
So, this blogging thing is as addictive as everyone says, and I’ve decided to join NaBloPoMo.
Check back here every day for a Single Card Tarot Reading. This card will mostly be related to my life, creativity, and professional journey as a freelance writer, but may also point to larger trends in the world.
Additionally, for the months of October and November, I will be offering FREE tarot readings online. Just post your question as a comment, and I will do a three-card spread for you. Please give me a few days to reply.
(Readings are for entertainment purposes only–although I’ve never quite figured out what other purpose a reading would be used for… if you’re making major life decisions based on what a stranger says in a blog, probably no disclaimer will help you!)
I figured this blog would give me plenty of material for NaBloPoMo, while helping to hone my tarot reading skills.
