Teri writes:
Dear Miss Michele: I’d like some insight into the themes I will be
working with in my love life. Specifically, I’d like some insight into the chance of reuniting with an old love (2006 old!). Thank you.
Past experience in love: Two of Wands: Referring specifically to your old love, this partnership worked well and you thought it would have longevity. Then one of you moved away and the distance was too much to bear. You had to make the painful decision of separating.
Current experience in love: King of Cups: Now, you view this past lover, once again, as your ideal mate. In fact, no other person has lived up to the standards you set. He is kind, loving, thoughtful—your ideal pair in every way. However, you currently have a sense of security in your life you could lose if you pursue your past lover. You feel a reconciliation may not be “a sure thing.”
What you want from a love relationship: Queen of Pentacles: This card of fertility and growth shows you are seeking a steady, committed “grown-up” relationship—a home and family. You want someone who will bring out the best in you, both your nurturing side and your fierce intelligence.
What you need from a love relationship: Ace of Swords: Again, supporting the fact that an intellectual match is even more important than a physical or romantic match, the Ace of Swords shows you need an equal partner in life. The double-edged sword foretells a “new beginning,” albeit with an old flame.
What you have to offer in a relationship: 6 of Swords: You can offer a sense of adventure. Paired with the Two of Wands, Miss Michele wants to interpret this card—showing a traveler rowing a boat toward shore—quite literally. You are now willing to travel, even relocate, to be with this person.
Possible future experience: 6 of Pentacles: Yet another six in this reading shows your desire to settle down. Six is also a number representing choice; you are at a crossroads. To try again or not?
With no Major Arcanas in this reading, the decision lies entirely in your hands, Teri. That may not be what you want to hear, as you are clearly torn about the matter, but if you pursue this relationship it should give you what you need… but it may take time.
The wealth of Pentacles in this romance reading tells Miss Michele that you value platonic friendship – a true cerebral and well-grounded connection – with a lover over lust and romance. You are ready for a mature love.
Serenity Bly adds: The King of Cups is more how Teri views her past love, not necessarily how he really is. The Ace and the Two, which are “young” cards, represent him, and he’s not quite ready for the commitment she’s dreaming of. If she wants him, she’ll have to be patient.
The Tarot cautions Teri to beware of rose-tinted visions of the past. It is important that she look at WHY they didn’t work in the past and if anything has changed.
* Miss Michele used the Robin Wood Tarot Deck for this reading, with intuitive insight from Serenity Bly. *
Otherwise known as the classic three card spread “Body, Mind, Spirit,” this tarot spread provides a quick glance at a person’s overall health and wellness. This is good for when you need to easily see which areas are going well, and which areas need improvement. I’ve been feeling a little drained lately, and decided to do this spread for myself with the Gilded Tarot Deck.
Today’s Draw: Eight of Cups – Temperance – The Devil
Eight of Cups: This is the card of letting go of past influences, and you could say that I have let my body go! I haven’t been keeping up a good exercise routine, and have indulged in a few more sweet treats than I should have. In this card, a young man with two feathers in his cap is turned away in pursuit of a new adventure. He has his walking stick in hand, and is looking out towards the moonrise above the mountains. In the foreground is eight cups, some overturned. There is also a small brown creature, which I am really not sure what it is. At first glance, I thought it could be a platypus, but it could also be a mole. Either way, it is lying there, asleep and not traveling with the adventurer.
This card advises that I should let go of old habits that aren’t serving me well, and pursue new adventures in diet and exercise. Try a new sport that I’ve never explored before, along with new healthy foods. I cannot let my fears and confusion prevent me from doing what it takes to have good health.
Temperance: This is the card of alchemy and synergy, of blending two opposites to create a new force. This fire-haired lady hold two cups, one filled with fire, the other with water. The two blend together seamlessly as a river of energy flows between the cups. She is dressed in a sheer orange dress, and floats in the sky in front of a planet, perhaps Mercury.
In the mind position, this card suggests that I reconcile opposite opinions in my mind. The confident and bold side of my personality and the shy, cautious side need to work in harmony. Opposing thoughts can either create conflict in the mind, or can be integrated and used when appropriate. As I reach for the stars, I need to ensure that I am not at war with myself, and am thinking correctly to reach my goals.
The Devil: Unlike the Rider Waite Smith Deck where the Devil is a demon-like creature, this devil is a man who is dealing with his inner demons. He wears a mask with ram horns, and a star on the forehead. Surrounding him is a lake of fire, which illustrates how succumbing to our inner indulgences can burn out our strength, energy, and spirit.
This card shows that I have been a tad too indulgent lately. While we all need to relax and have fun once in a while, letting ourselves follow every whim can lead down a path of trouble. Spiritual discipline is important, as it allows us to explore our emotions and desires in a controlled manner. We can determine what the best course of action is logically, and not be slaves to our inner desires. To be able to remove the mask, and see ourselves for who we truly are, is a great gift that brings self-awareness and healing.
Overall, it seems like I have a lot of work to do, to bring myself into a healthy state. That is the beauty of the tarot cards, as they allow you to see where you have room to grow and blossom. Allow the tarot to point you in the right direction, and your life will reach unexpected new heights of success and healing.
We have another request for an L-for-Love Spread for Laura–a different Laura this time, Miss Michele should note.
Laura wants to know her future prospects for romance and how she can encourage love into her life.
Overview: A glimpse at the six cards in Laura‘s L-for-Love Spread show a woman who wants a relationship, but is focused more on the practical aspects of “being in a relationship” than on sharing love with someone. Laura, open your heart and what you want will fall into place.
A preponderance of Pentacles and Wands in a love spread show us that either her mind is elsewhere and now is not the time for love, or she views relationships as simply another “thing on her to-do list,” as in Find Career: Check, Find Boyfriend: Check, Get Married…
If love is what you truly want, Laura, we encourage you to open your heart to the many wonderful things romance has to offer.
Serenity Bly comments on the lack of Cups, as well: The lack of ANY cups in this reading has me feeling that you’re not ready to focus on relationships. You’re in a strong creative mode and might be craving family because of it but could find more balance turning your creativity into a new project. And don’t forget, love often finds you when you stop looking.
Your past experience in love: Three of Pentacles: You’re coming at relationships as “work,” and that is understandable based on your past experience. Dating and romance has never been easy for you, and, as a practical person, you approach romance pragmatically, as well. You may have had relationships in the past where it was never easy—and no, love is not easy, you do have to work for it, but it doesn’t always have to be a challenge, either.
Your current experience in love: Eight of Wands. In your current relationship, things are moving rapidly… too fast for your practical mind to accept, and it’s scary. Slow down a bit. You have time. (I say this with no hint at your age… whatever age you are, there is still (always) time!
What you want from a love relationship: Six of Pentacles Again. The practical aspects of your personality are coming out in your needs for a love relationship. You want a husband, father and, above all else, a provider. You want stability.
What you need from a love relationship: Three of Rods: Issues and conflict occurs when what we think we want, what we are seeking, and what we NEED differ. You need something fresh, and someone who will be a ‘life partner’ for you, nurturing your creativity. You need someone intelligent, strong, and who will complement you in every way.
Serenity Bly adds: Laura, your best course of action is to let go of your expectations and accept what comes into your life without judging it too soon.
What you have to give your lover: Two of Pentacles Laura, you are a well-balanced, strong woman who is adept and keeping many balls in the air. As a head of household, you will keep things running smoothly and give your lover a “safe haven.”
But the lack of Cups in this reading leads Miss Michele to remind you not to forget about passion. Embrace the fire shown in the Eight of Rods. Let your lover take you to new places, take chances, embrace love.
Possible future experience in love: King of Pentacles: The outcome card tells us you are on the right path… you will settle down with the man who complements you in every way, who is a strong leader, father figure and steady provider. Just be careful not to be dominated by this powerful “king”—you are a strong woman yourself and have plenty to offer in a relationship/partnership.
Serenity Bly adds: Regarding the King of Pentacles: While you might be looking for a man who is well off, settled into his career and comfortable/confident in his life, try to relax the hunt. You have nothing to worry about, whoever comes into your life will be the person you need and sometimes ‘looking’ for it blinds you to the qualities you don’t know you need in a man. Sometimes the beer goggles come into play and you may be fooled into seeing something in a date that isn’t really there. For example, if you’re looking for someone who lives in a trick apartment you’ll find someone who lives in a trick apartment, but you WON’T see the double mortgage and the gambling debts.
Open up your mind to the idea of loving, giving, FIRST. Being open and unconditional in your expectations brings your energy to the level where positive, healthy relationships can come in and return that love.
