The start of a new year is the best time to layout an 12-Month Spread. In January, Jenine asked us to discover what she can expect and prepare for in the year ahead. Lets break it down, month by month.
This month began with personal growth for you, as we’ve seen. You’ve learned how to harness your inner strength to begin making positive changes in your life, and also learned how to capitalize on your own strengths for business success. In the process, you’ve learned you’re stronger than you’ve always believed.
Expect a celebration of your successes in February, gatherings with friends and plenty of social invitations.
This month, you are able to balance discipline with kindness. You have fabulous ideas and are able to view things from unique perspectives. This card represents your getting in better touch with your classroom persona – you are strict, but kind and wise. Remember to maintain balance in all you do. Watch out for responsibilities that may drain you of time and energy, but offer little in return.
The spring, March and April, is also about balance, indicated by the coupling of Justice with the Two of Swords. When I look at May (Four of Cups), and the clarification card I felt called to draw, it all comes together. You may be doing too much! You were on a whirlwind of utter excitement and success, but began neglecting certain health matters. (For instance, pay attention to eating balanced, frequent meals to keep your blood sugar on an even keel?) You may feel as if people – family, clients, your day job, other commitments, are pulling you in too many directions.
As shown by the Two of Swords, a powerfully graphic card showing a woman, arms crossed, blindfolded, there are factors you are choosing not to see. People who may want, want, want, without being willing to give back. And in this case, there is nothing in it for you. You’re better to walk away…for your health.
When I pulled a clarification card, the Four of Swords came out, and the Five of Cups kind of hitched a ride with it. Granted, my Robin Wood deck is smooth and slick, especially on the graphite surface of my new desk, but the meaning is clear… You must be aware of your health or, (Four of Swords) a rest will be forced upon you. The Five of Cups indicates loss, disappointment, poverty and mourning of what may have been. Again, this could be your feelings if you don’t do what’s necessary. Now is a good time to evaluate all your balls in the air and decide what isn’t crucial and most importantly, what doesn’t provide you joy.
As friends and colleagues of yours, both Serenity Bly and Miss Michele would like to remind you of the support system you have here. Turn to us for help, whether for additional readings, professional support or simply a shoulder. You also have other strong support systems… use them. It’s important not to retreat in the spring.
The Four of Cups represents the aftermath of what is admittedly, a rough April. Again, I want to remind you it will only be rough if you make it that way. By being aware of those factors, acknowledging them, and choosing to focus on making things otherwise, you CAN change it! The Cups in the Four of Cups may be empty, but empty cups mean potential to fill them.
That opportunity comes in June when you literally face a new beginning, perhaps a new business idea. It certainly indicates a renewal of your energy. And what better time for a rebirth?!
I absolutely love this card, the Wish fulfillment card, and it’s perfectly suited for you at this stage. You are seeing that truly, whatever you ask for, the Universe offers. Your job is simply to allow it in and know you deserve it. Conceive – believe – receive… where have you heard that before?
Success continues in August… there’s hard work ahead, but you are fit and ready for the task.
There will be more pulling and demands of your time in September… challenges similar to what you faced in the Spring will rear their heads again. You’ll need to stand your ground against people who want a piece of you – and may not deserve it, appreciate you or be willing to pay what you’re worth. Additionally, the Devil indicates a desire to bury your head in the sand, ignore all the work and demands you face, and goof off. Resist that desire, as then tasks will only build. Do what you can, and say “No,” (or, better yet, “Not now, thank you”) to the rest.
You experience a significant breakthrough in October, that begins paving the way to the “new you.” You realize, after that “Devil moment” in September, that things absolutely cannot continue the way they are. I’m wondering if this doesn’t indicate your leaving your day job… under circumstances that surprise you but ultimately, wind up for the best. You definitely do NOT emerge the same woman you were in the beginning of October by month’s end.
Following your Tower breakthrough, you become a master at harnessing your skills and talents to achieve success. The Magician’s number, 1, indicates you’re still at the beginning of this journey, but that’s okay. The Magician is proficient at what he achieves when he uses his special skills.
An extension of the Magician, with an emphasis on the feminine, you see the fruits of your labors from November. This card also indicates your role as a caregiver of those around you, and a hostess for the holidays. You are in “nesting” mode, preparing your home for the holidays, baking, shopping, and making things.
This overview card, often signifying poverty, seems to contradict the positivity in the rest of the reading. In fact, in this case, the card represents Recovery. Rather than showing the year, it shows where you were – in despair, with both health and financial problems, coupled with a dose of self-doubt. Unfortunately, these shadows of your former self still haunt in you—even in the face of your great successes in 2010.
The best way to contradict these feelings is to be aware they are there. Do not forget your roots, or what can happen if you stop working, change paths or give up your dreams. By the same token, it’s important not to harp on it. Acknowledge it as part of your past, and move on. It is no longer you. In the Robin Wood deck, the person with the can, with one leg and a bandage over one eye, is forging ahead, in contrast to the destitute person crumbled on the floor beside them. You, too, must forge ahead in spite of any of your perceived in adequacies – because that is all they are. YOUR perceptions. Other people view you as the Strength card of January, the Queen of Pents, and the Magician – all figures which feature prominently in this year for you.
With all the Cups and Pentacles in this reading, along with Major Arcana, this will be a significant year of you learning to make money doing what you love. It will be about finding personal fulfillment and, from that, the money will follow. Most cards are lower – ones, fours and fives, indicating you are in the beginning stages of this development. However, bright spots include that 9 and 10 of Cups in the summer. It is a year to look forward to, to dive in headfirst and accept all the good the Universe is offering you.
What does your ultimate home look like? Have you imagined yourself in the house of your dreams? A few months ago, Mysti was on the hunt for a new home, the perfect home for her young family. With a little guidance she learned that finding the right home for her family has a lot more to do with believing in dreams than real estate.
Mysti: Now to take that crystal ball and look back to my life… is it land or a house…
Serenity Bly: *chuckles* You know, part of me says, “Just need the pentacles for this, depending on which number pent turns up equals exactly how far along in the ‘its a house’ process you’ll get.” lol Interesting, my cards are offering to do just that for me. Tower and seven of cups leaped for the floor (and since I’m usually a very careful shuffler that is interesting)
Mysti: We have the choice of buying land and putting a modular on temporarily while we build or just buying and since we want to build in the end…
Miss Michele: If you can afford the first choice, I’d do it. Cards aside. If you find the place you like, it’s better, esp. for the kids, to not have to move a lot.
Serenity Bly: Without the cards I’d want to build too.
But, lets draw three and see what they say.
Mysti: Before I get beyond irritated with the whole process, lol. I need to decide one way or another.
Miss Michele: Maybe keep your options open, look at land and houses, see what’s out there.
Serenity Bly: Four of Pentacles in the past, the (gotta be obvious) Hanged Man in the present, and Knight of Wands in the future. I feel like this is indicating you building your own house, the knight is ideas, inspiration, creativity. He’s the stage one of a concept, before the foundation is laid, drawing the building plans.
Serenity Bly: The Four of Pentacles shows that you’ve put a great deal of yourself into the homes you’ve had in the past but never felt completely satisfied. They’ve been found wanting and you’ve felt frustration (*ponders* Oh, that sense must be why the card came out reversed) that you’ve needed things done that you couldn’t do yourself or that you had no power to change.
Mysti:
Yes ‘em. Wonders when Serenity is going to go with the flow in reversals?? lol
Serenity Bly: The Hanged Man is, as I said, obvious. It shows your current indecision. I feel like he’s telling you that you don’t have to decide right now. Trust the universe to provide exactly what you need. Leave your options open (as MM mentioned).
Mysti:
hmmmm. interesting thoughts.
Serenity Bly: *chuckles* I’m getting there with reversals. lol As I come to know the cards more instinctively and need to refer to the book less. You see, the Mythic Tarot Deck doesn’t do reversals. So I’ve had to learn their ‘reversed’ meaning through experience and psychic insight rather than from the text.
Serenity Bly: And guess what! Those jumpers that came out earlier tie into your reading. Giving it a ‘very near future’ time frame. The Tower and Seven of Cups, indicate big changes, chasing your dreams, creating your future NOW. So, while you’re embracing the Hanged Man sense of ‘wait and see’ those two cards together say, “You won’t have long to wait.”
Miss Michele: YES! I also get the sense, from the Seven of Cups, that your dream home is coming quicker than expected. You will, literally, be tearing something down to build something new. So, not to steer you too much toward the land–look at both–I have a feeling that’s what you’ll find.
Serenity Bly: And as I said earlier, I’m leaning towards having to begin at the beginning, building on land because the future shows the rapid, excited action and fast pace of a Knight of Wands instead of any sense of Pentacles.
Mysti: Right. I found 37 acres outside of town with a stream today. I’m not sure we could afford the 37 acres though.
Serenity Bly: Check it out, Mysti! Seriously. If you’re meant to have that land the price will be something you can make happen. You may be surprised that it doesn’t cost as much as you thought it should. If you FELT a connection with that land, it could be the parcel that is intended for you. And don’t forget, if you can’t afford the full 37 acres, the owners might sell you a subdivision of it.
Mysti: The 37 acres is listed at just over 1M and there’s not a way we could finance 1M. *nods* Right, and that’s what I’d hope for… but not holding my breath either. lol
Serenity Bly: Yeah, not a good idea for the Hanged Man to hold his breath over anything.
Let it happen, check out every opportunity and see what comes to deliver your new home. If you’re meant to have that land, if it’s right for you and right for your dreams, you can make it happen.

Over the years you’ve worked hard to build your skills but often felt like you should give up one path to follow another. The Five of Pentacles shows a man walking away from a job that paid well and offered a sense of satisfaction but no real joy. He feels a sense of loss and has sacrificed the hard work of the past.
Now you spend a great deal of your time in reflection and, perhaps, regret. The Page of Cups (reversed) knows how talented he is and believes that he deserves to do something remarkable with his life and with the direction of his career. You want to make lasting change but by spending so much of your time and energy looking into your own reflection you may be missing the opportunities for growth and development that are around you.
You’re either starting to feel the penny pinching, the tightening of belts, and want to feel more financial freedom, or are afraid to lose the income you currently have. The Ace of Pentacles (reversed) represents and almost miserly sense of financial instability. You may find that the way you ‘cling’ to what you have prevents you from feeling the sense of true abundance you desire.
Tied together with the Knight of Wands (reversed) in this position I get the impression that you want the freedom of choosing your own goals and outcomes. You’d rather not work for ‘the man’. You want to set your own path and be able to create new and interesting opportunities. You don’t want to be tied down but I suspect you also fear too much freedom.
The Tower tells me that what you truly need is to give up your old perceptions, your old realities, and take a chance on a new direction. You may have been clinging to a position that hasn’t made you happy simply because it’s all that has kept food on the table. If you’re considering taking the plunge to freelancing or going into business for yourself rather than keeping your day job this Tower says it could be exactly what you need. Change, while scary, is always an adventure that brings new and exciting potential into your life.
You’re passionate and have the ability to set in single-minded pursuit of your goals and interests. The Devil is highly charged, he’s emotional and earthy, he’s in command of his reality and understands how to influence and manipulate other people and situations to suit his own interests.
When the Nine of Wands joins the Devil we see bright new ideas and a potential for successful inspirations and ventures. Out of rough seas you’re generating new concepts and approaching what feels like a new business venture with fresh energy and enthusiasm.
The Tarot suggests that you trust your instincts and ignore the negativity others are throwing at you. Choose not to let those who express concerns and disbelief in your abilities or in the global economy to sustain new opportunities. You may be feeling dragged down by the ‘logic’ and ‘rationale’ arguments being presented and the Nine of Swords (reversed) expresses a need to tune out those discouraging influences. Choose your path based on what you feel within yourself to be the right course of action. Trust your own judgment and take chances based on your gut despite what others might think.
Once again, several Tarot enthusiasts met on Wednesday evening, 9:30 PM EST for Tarot Chat. Join us every Wednesday night! Our newest attendant had an interesting question to ask regarding a situation she is currently facing with her friend.
Teresa: I have a friend who is in difficult circumstances. What can you tell me about the endeavor I’m helping him with?
Miss Michele: Great phrasing! First card- Six of Swords. I’m using Hanson Roberts if anyone is wondering… second, Seven of Cups… third, The Tower… Which is a VERY odd combination… It seems like your friend is being his own worst enemy in this, too.
Teresa: Heh.
Miss Michele: Instead of running toward something, as shown from Six of Swords, he’s running AWAY from something. But, the Seven of Cups tells us he’s scattered about it. If he’s starting a business, he’s doing so without a business plan.
Serenity Bly: My eyes jump right to that Seven of Cups. Usually, that is about having so many dreams and not knowing how to choose amongst these abundant options. It’s about having a guide who can show the right path and needing to listen to that guide.
Miss Michele: YES… I see that as the role Teresa plays.
Serenity Bly: In this case I feel like YOU, Teresa, are that guide for your friend. You have their best interest at heart and can see more clearly a future that would lead them to their greatest joys.
Miss Michele: I just drew a fourth card, asking specifically, how can Teresa help him avoid manifesting that ‘Tower’ in his business… and the Knight of Cups came up. Knights are messengers… like Serenity said, you’re going to guide him.
Serenity Bly: But they mightn’t be very open to listening to your ideas yet and you may need to use a gentle hand, a kind heart, keep showing it, keep steering it, and eventually they’ll come to it.
Miss Michele: AND you’re going to guide him toward his passion, so he’s not doing it for the money and definitely not doing it to escape worse options.
Teresa: Really, REALLY interesting.
Miss Michele: If it does all come tumbling down, you’ll help him pick up the pieces and that is when you will (almost literally) lift him up onto your horse and carry him to a better place… So this endeavor may not work but it’s setting the stage for success next time around.
Serenity Bly: Going back to The Tower, I feel like it represents a tearing down of his belief system. His mindset is coming at it from an obscured angle and he’ll come to a point where there is a paradigm shift, SUDDENLY he’ll see things differently. It’ll feel like everything is crashing down as he comes to that realization. The way he does things will shift and change dramatically.
Teresa: He’s in the eye of the storm right now.
Miss Michele: He’s in a very exciting place right now.
Serenity Bly: It is probably in THAT space, where you’ll have the most power to guide him. Teaching him how to rebuild on a firmer foundation with new goals and expectations.
Miss Michele: I feel like “the word of the day is: CHANGE.”
Teresa: Extremely interesting… and accounting for a twist to the situation that couldn’t be anticipated by the readers, extremely accurate (I think, and hope).

Stephanie is entering a phase of learning this year. She will be learning balance, discipline, money-making techniques and a stick-to-it-iveness that will serve her well throughout life. The Six of Pentacles in the year’s theme, while not a Major Arcana, Stephanie’s victories will be small but significant. Think: one step at a time.
A powerful man is a strong influencer, or perhaps it is a woman with male-dominant traits who figures prominently. This person is Stephanie’s inspiration as well as her drill sergeant, who gives her the strength and energy to keep going when she’d just rather not.
The person referenced above makes his first appearance in June, ruling with a bit of an iron fist, sword poised not so much for battle as to let Stephanie know it is there. The King of Swords will poke her with it if appropriate, if only to get her moving “for her own good.”
And move Stephanie does, straight into good things. The Wheel of Fortune heralds an unexpected windfall of time, money and energy puts Stephanie on the path toward what she wants to accomplish.
This card indicates a journey of learning, honing a craft or skill into profits. It may also indicate a business endeavor with others, where the other person takes the lead in many areas. Just because Stephanie is behind the scenes, however, does not mean her contribution is inconsequential. To the contrary, the Three of Pentacles shows she is learning all she can, absorbing like a sponge, so she can take over.
This card indicates the fruition of that which was begun. Sometimes called the “Happy Family” card, the Ten of Pentacles is a Minor Arcana version of the Wheel of Fortune, which we saw earlier in the year. Hard work has paid off and profits are flowing in.
After a season of success, Stephanie is pulling back to re-evaluate her goals and ambitions. It may be time for a complete change of focus, or perhaps just a rest. Based on the cards surrounding this Major Arcana, The Hermit, too many people are counting on you for you to stay away long.
It’s a young man! Or woman! With a great idea!
Miss Michele’s tongue-in-cheek exclamation points reflect the Page of Swords’ enthusiasm. There is no room for pessimism or naysayers here. Change is in the air, and it’s all for the better. Perhaps a new business idea, or a new direction for the existing business. Either way, this youngsters enthusiasm (and when we say youngster here at Future-Tarot, we mean the young at heart) will lift Stephanie out of October’s doldrums and won’t take no for an answer.
Here’s that strong male influence again, only he’s softened around the edges this time. The King of Wandssees the progress Stephanie has made and he’s willing to step back and gently guide her this time around.
This card, more than any other in the reading, represents Stephanie and her evolution over the past six months. She went from being a person easily led down whatever path others saw as best for her, to stepping up to be a queen in her own right, ruling with that sword. Miss Michele’s only warning would be to not lose touch of the softness that makes her uniquely Stephanie. Strength is good, so long as it’s tempered by tenderness. The Queen of Swords is sharp and shrewd, but it’s wise to remember she doesn’t know everything – yet.
Just as Stephanie steps into her own, The World is waiting for her. Quite literally, February sees the culmination of everything she has worked so hard for in 2009. With her business going strong, it’s time to sit back, relax, and await the next challenge.
And, as always, life moves in cycles and the change of seasons brings the start of a new cycle. The Two of Swords reflects a need for balance and factors Stephanie may not have considered in the past. For instance, with this reading for the last half of 2009 so filled with Swords and Pentacles, there wasn’t much time for romance, tenderness or even fun. What areas of her life was Stephanie neglecting and how can she make room for them?
The Chariot holds the answer, as this Major Arcana predicts a journey. The journey is literal in this case, as well as figurative. Stephanie seeks direction – a cosmic and spiritual GPS if you will – to tell her what’s next in her life. A clarification card, the Four of Pentacles, provides that direction. Now that the Universe has been so kind as to grant your wishes, it’s time to let go a bit. You can afford to be generous – with your time, money and emotions. Take The Chariot, enjoy your vacation, let all your worries drift away… and tip generously. The Universe has plenty more where that came from.
May brings a time when Stephanie wants to reinvent herself once again her trip brought new perspective, but she came home to a perhaps unwelcome surprise. Like the phoenix rising out of the ashes – that’s the preferred analogy for The Tower Major Arcana – everything will only be stronger with the rebuilding. She may come home from her trip to startling news, a home break-in, or simply changes beyond her imagination.
The emphasis is on balance, learning and, above all, fairness. Her karmic lesson for the year, shown in the Six of Pentacles is to think more about others than about herself and, from that, good things will come.
