[Serenity Bly] Two of them have very distinct meanings that differ on the situation, so I’m just taking an extra moment to tune in on the right one.

[Serenity Bly] I’m pretty sure The Devil in this case is a sense of having felt manipulated and controlled in the past. *big hugs* What I feel here is a sense of abuse, perhaps a boyfriend/husband or father figure. For a long time, that influence had you dancing to his tune and feeling dominated by his arrogance and the choices he made for your life.

[Miss Shin] Wow. That’s true. My boyfriend is really particular about my past.

[Serenity Bly] You weren’t in charge of your own destiny. You were managed by this influence and it was his wishes you obeyed and his opinions that mattered. Your life was his to commend. The energy is very domineering and uncomfortable, like you had to shrink the light inside you to avoid the pain he could bring upon it with the hurt and harm he caused.

[Miss Shin] I guess it was more of an emotional abuse of judgments.

[Serenity Bly] The Ace of Swords in the present shows that you’re just starting to learn to talk about that, to bring it out into the open. Perhaps it’s upsetting your friends or family to know, as if they’d seen your light and had no idea that this was going on in that relationship. They’re surprised, but it’s very good that you’re giving voice to what was going on then. And doing so is shaping a beautiful future. I get the impression there is already a new partner in your life, or on the horizon of your life.

1. Your Present Self – Eight of Cups

You’ve had your share of heartbreaks and love gone wrong. You’ve learned to walk away from pain and sorrow. You’ve developed relationships that grew, for a time, and ended. I get the impression you’re not long out of a deeply emotional relationship and you are still carrying the wounds of that relationship within your heart.

2. The Crossing Card – The Lovers (reversed)

The way your heart it still tied to your past love is also reflected in The Lovers (reversed) as a crossing card. Often, The Lovers represent choice and in this case I feel like you’re doubting your past choices. A part of you reserves your heart because you’re yearning for an old love and feel like your choices are no longer yours to make.

The Three of Cups shows clearly this new union. It’s a fond partnership that has the potential to be loving and giving. This new person in your life cares for you but also senses your reserve. You’ve held your tongue instead of sharing your doubts, concerns, and pain. You’ve shown the strength of the Queen of Wands in yourself but hide your weaknesses. Doing this creates a sense of detachment and distance. Your new love interest has one foot on the threshold of your relationship, he’s not sure if he wants to leap in or leap out because he’s not getting clear signals from you.

The Ace of Swords in the final position shows a growing ability to communicate with the people in your life, to let them into your inner sanctum. Learn to let down your guard and open up to the people in your life so that you can embrace the true joy that comes with love. Heartbreak is real, yes, loving can hurt, but if you turn your back on the risk of future pain you’ll miss opportunities in the present to be very happy. The second card, in the near future, shows you’re very ready to take the leap… it is The Fool. You are very much in the *start* of your journey. Whatever you do, it will be a great departure from what you’ve done in the past.

[Miss Michele] Remember, with the Two and the Fool and the Hermit–it’s the beginning stages. Don’t expect immediate results, although the Seven of Swords does point toward some measure of success right away. But don’t listen to naysayers.

[Serenity Bly] I want to just also mention that since no Pentacles or money cards came up whatever path you choose probably won’t be the one that appears to be more financially rewarding than other opportunities. Part of the risk taking you need to do as The Fool is to accept what might be less financially rewarding because it will be more emotionally and mentally rewarding.

Tom’s job position was made “redundant” in January and, since then, he’s been depressed and struggling. What do Tom’s career prospects look like in the near future?

Your Past Experience in your Career: The Knight of Swords supports our mundane knowledge that Tom was laid off. Swords indicate unexpected change and rapid action. We can tell that he had no idea it was coming. In fact, by the look of this Knight – which represents Tom’s boss — as he charges forward on his horse, it was a spur-of-the-moment decision and possibly not in anybody’s best interests.

Your Current Job Experience: The Major Arcana, Judgment in this slot tells us that Tom has been looking for work. His professional life, lately, involves a lot of assessment by others. They are gauging his resume, comparing him to other candidates. Tom feels this on a very subconscious level, too, and doesn’t particularly care for others examining his work under a microscope.

This only reinforces that Tom’s ideal job involves helping people and finding emotional fulfillment over a hefty paycheck. His ability to relate to people means he’ll do well in any job working with the public, whether it’s service industry or psychology.

Your Career Future – Your Action Plan: The Page of Swords and Eight of Cups both stand as cards indicating deception. Miss Michele wonders if Tom was actually a spy, as unlikely as this scenario might be. More likely, Tom needs to watch out for those in his career who are trying to pull one over on him. This may have been what happened in his last jobs – things were not as he expected them to be. Moreover, he’s encountering more than his fair share of people who are less than honest in his job search.

Again, however, people skills figure prominently in the Page of Swords, who is a skilled diplomat. Perhaps a career in customer service for Tom? Pages are messengers and swords indicate change so, whatever field it may be in, a job offer will come soon.

You will feel that others are getting what you want and deserve and won’t understand why. You believe strongly in people “paying their dues” and this will manifest in 2009. You asked about an old flame coming back into your life… he will, but you will be over-thinking the relationship. Does some part of you want him back only to reject him? Being tuned into Erica was a warm and touching experience. I know she’s a generally empowered, positive woman who stands tall in the world. She is bright and I feel like she represents a great lake. Her surface is smooth, calm, unruffled but beneath she is shifted by emotional currents of uncertainty.

I feel like it is these deeper elements that manifest the challenges the cards reveals through the second half of the year. Thankfully, overcoming inner demons is one of this years greatest universal elements. We will all be forced to gaze upon ourselves and account for our true being.

I can tell that Erica will grow and that this year she’ll overcome some of the greater challenges she has found recurring through her past. She’ll inspire others with her courage and confidence and go into 2010 with a new sense of purpose and an exciting new opportunity.

January: The King of Cups: The year begins on a solid foundation of emotional strength and warmth. A firm, capable masculine influence creates a harmony in the home, filling Erica’s life with a loving atmosphere and a strong sense of security. April: Eight of Wands: My first thoughts on seeing this card after the original three was Honeymoon. While a marriage may not have been the Three of Cups intentions in March, April’s atmosphere has a relaxed get away in mind. The Eight of Wands usually indicates travel, a new adventure, a journey.

May: Six of Swords: After the upheaval and changes through March and April, Erica will finally be able to move at a slower pace. May brings with it calm serenity and the opportunity to find her footing as her new reality settles about her.

June: Two of Cups: June’s cups point to a new relationship or new depths for an existing relationship after times of trouble. It’s possible that Erica will welcome someone into her life. If she is planning a family then it wouldn’t surprise me if a child is on the way in June.

July: Five of Pentacles: Thoughts of family and romance turn to finance in July. Erica may find her financial footing is not as secure as she once thought and needs to reconsider the way her finances are managed. It is important to evaluate past mistakes but know that this period will lead to greater security if she chooses to make sensible choices.

August: Page of Swords: The winds of changing thoughts and personal growth flow from the Page of Swords in August. From an almost boyish sense of petty self-mindedness it’s time to reach a new level of awareness that is outside of one’s self. Erica might feel a sense of self-loathing or frustration. When the mind seeks to disable us it is important to learn from our past mistakes but do not allow them to shield us from making future choices.

September: Five of Cups: September will be washed in a haze of regret and a sense of betrayal, perhaps because of the depression and turmoil blown up by the Page of Swords. It is important to remember that this misunderstanding does not foretell an ending. It is a speed bump in Erica’s happiness that can be overcome with patience, love, and communication.

October: Eight of Swords: Things seem to be just getting worse. From regret and betrayal Erica sinks deeper through October until she feels trapped. A choice must be made but there is no single choice that feels right and every choice brings with it trouble and risk.

November: Page of Cups: November offers release from the frustrations of the past months. The Page of Cups plants a seed of emotional warmth and tenderness into the situation and from that grows a new strength in your relationships, both with yourself and with others.

December: Eight of Pentacles: Erica’s year ends on a positive note with an exciting and exhilarating opportunity to hone and harvest her craft. She may discover a new hobby and forges a great sense of achievement. This could be the foundation for a business venture.

Overview: Ten of Swords: When it comes down to it, 2009 is about letting go and creating something new and beautiful from past hardship and grief. Erica has faced her own struggles and unfortunately they are not all behind her but her strength of being and purpose remains. There are challenges ahead and I feel that Erica needs to know she does not go into battle alone. Her loved ones stand close and want to be given an opportunity to help. Don’t be afraid to ask.

The year begins with the Three of Pentacles, an emphasis on work and learning in January. This card shows a financial endeavor off to a good start. With new bookkeeping and tracking software and a clear vision and goals for 2008, this card makes a lot of sense already. Miss Michele may also undertake a small home renovation project, such as painting.

Miss Michele had a very productive month in January, so it’s safe to say this reading was true. Except for the home renovation–that may have been wishful thinking!

February’s card warns Miss Michele to rest or she will once again fall ill. The Ten of Swords indicates forced rest or illness, as well as the possibility of a friend’s betrayal, which will, in turn, make me extremely weary and tired, and perhaps even physically ill.

This card scared Miss Michele when she pulled it back in December. She got the impression the illness would be more serious than a cold or flu. Well, she discovered on January 30 that she was pregnant. Most of February was spent lying on the couch with the laptop, fighting off queasiness and fatigue. Everything was an effort… easily, the worst this tarot reader has ever felt!

Things get better in March with the Two of Cups. Either I will reconcile with the friend from February, or things will get a lot better in terms of career and business partnerships. Things with RECON may begin to come to fruition in terms of profitability as we complete our third issue under new ownership. This one will be on time and as close to perfect as three people can make a magazine!

This month’s card came true on both counts. Admittedly, I knew in December I was having issues with a close friend. Through a series of e-mails and a few phone discussions, we finally cleared things up in March. Also, around March 20, morning sickness subsided and I started to feel better.

Let’s skip ahead to October… with an odd little card that Miss Michele wasn’t sure how to interpret at the time:

October brings the Page of Cups. Could indicate news of a birth or a wedding.

This card confused me at the time of the reading, but this one little sentence may have been my most accurate reading to date! My estimated due date is October 2.

Miss Michele was half right. She discovered, the day after she drew the Three of Cups, that she’s pregnant. It’s been tough fighting fatigue and keeping up with her daily work.

Today’s card of the day is the Eight of Rods. Things are moving full speed ahead, once again, related not to health, family or emotions, but career. Today marks a turning point where I will start exercising to keep my energy up and try eating healthier.

Although I have a lot of work to get done, the overall day will be filled with closeness and a good balance of leisure and accomplishment. It means my projects will get completed and networking efforts will be successful.

This is a pleasant change from the abundance of recent “work” cards, although I’ve noticed a shift from Pentacles and Wands to Cups lately.

Heart of the Matter – The Hanged Man in the past/heart of the matter slot shows Mrs. Cogan’s writing career at a standstill. She knew she needed to find a new direction, new perspective and different goals before things take off.
